Resident Permit

Overview

Birmingham has several resident permit schemes. The details of these are in the essential service information below. You can find out more details by using local view maps.
Residents permits are valid for a period of 12 months, but can be renewed.
There are restrictions on how many permits are allowed per household.

  • Evening and weekend permits are available for residents:

    Inner Zone and Outer Zone

    Annual Resident Season Tickets for use in Pay and Display bays for use overnight from 5:00pm until 9:00am

    The following controlled parking zone schemes allow resident season tickets for parking in certain on-street pay and display parking bays.

    • Inner Zone (overnight and weekends only)
    • Outer Zone (overnight and weekends only)
    • Gun Quarter Zone (8.00am to 6.00pm Monday to Saturday)

    • You will have to provide the following documents:

      1: Your completed application form and payment (where applicable)
      2: Your vehicle registration document (V5 log book)
      3: Proof of residency i.e. Council Tax/ Utility bill

      It is necessary for original documents to be seen (copies are not accepted).

      Please do not send any documents or payment until you have received an application form and then follow the instructions on the form.

    • All residents living within the permit scheme area can apply for a permit, provided they can demonstrate that they are a resident and own a vehicle registered at the same address. This is subject to limitations on the number of permits per household or per scheme.

    • You will be sent an application form approx. 4 weeks before your permit runs out . You will need to complete the form and send it to us with your supporting documents and payment.

      If there is no change to your address or vehicle registration details, it will not be necessary for you to provide further proof of residency/ownership of vehicle with the application form.

    • We may be able to, please contact us on 0121 303 7616 to let us know what your needs are, and we will see if we can help.

    • Visitor permits are available for some schemes at a cost of £2.50 per book of 5 tickets.

      Each permit lasts for 24 hours from midnight to midnight. If your visitors are staying overnight then they should display one permit for each day. To request visitors permits please ring us on 0121 303 7616.

      If you would like a refund, we will consider your request. However, we consider each request on a case-by-case - basis.

    • If you change your vehicle you will need to replace your permit (unless your permit is for the Aston match day scheme).

      You will need to complete a new application form and send us your current permit and supporting documents in the same way as a new permit.

      The charge for this service is £10.00.

    • We are able to replace a lost or stolen permit. You must complete a replacement permit application form and send us supporting documents in the same way as a new permit.

      There is a charge for this:

      • £10.00 if you have your permit stolen (a crime number will be required in this case).
      • £18.90 if you have lost your permit.
