Support for Existing Businesses
Loans and Grants
We bid for finance from central government and the European Union to help businesses in Birmingham and across the West Midlands. Having secured finance, we then invite businesses to apply for grants, loans or other forms of support. We then assess each application against set criteria for each programme. There are a number of financial and support packages currently available. More details of eligibility are available below.
The Business Innovation Programme is an £8.7 million package of support to help businesses looking to invest in innovative production processes and develop new products.
European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) opportunities are now available for businesses in Tyseley, Jewellery Quarter, Digbeth, North and East Birmingham.
The Green Bridge Supply Chain Programme is a new competition for existing supply chain companies to develop their businesses within the green sector across the West Midlands.
The Business Development Programme is an £8m project available to small to medium sized enterprises (SMEs) based in the West Midlands region. The key elements will include:
- Grant support - will be available between £10,000- £15,000 towards business expansion projects with a minimum value of £20,000 linked directly to the creation of new jobs and safeguarding of existing jobs.
- One to One Coaching - Subsidised high growth coaching, mentoring and peer group learning will be available over a 12 month period.
The Advanced Manufacturing Initiative (AMSCI) is a £125m national project aimed at increasing manufacturing sector growth potential by addressing market failures and improving the competitiveness of supply chains to globally competitive levels, as well as attracting new manufacturers based in England.
In addition to the funding programmes that we manage, other organisations offer financial support to start up and existing businesses in the area.
Business Loan Fund - launched in January 2010, this groundbreaking initiative offers a £10 million package of loans to small and medium businesses (SMEs) based in Birmingham. The loan fund supports a diverse range of solid profitable Birmingham companies, which have previously been unable to access funding.
Equity Fund - launched In June 2011, this £10m fund is open to local companies that can demonstrate a two-year trading track record.
Aston Reinvestment Trust (ART)- provides loans of between £10,000 and £100,000 to entrepreneurs looking to create sustainable new businesses and existing businesses, including social enterprises, in Birmingham.
Creative Advantage Fund - is a Birmingham-based venture capital fund for the creative industries in the West Midlands.
