The Birmingham Development Plan will set out the statutory planning framework to guide decisions on development and regeneration in Birmingham until 2031. It will set out how and where the homes, jobs, services and infrastructure will be delivered and the type of places and environments we want to create in Birmingham.

By 2031, Birmingham’s population is projected to grow by 150,000. This level of growth, based on recent trends, is greater than previously considered and presents a challenge for planning the future homes and jobs the City needs.

If Birmingham is to achieve its ambitions and prosper, it will be vital that a positive and proactive approach is taken to plan for these homes and jobs in the most sustainable and deliverable way possible.

We have recently completed a consultation to seek your views on different ways the City can plan to achieve this. Comments can be viewed below.

As we are not publishing names and addresses of our consultees, organisation names have also had to be suppressed. However, the document below provides a list of organisations commenting on the consultation, together with the response date and time which can be used to locate their comment using the link above.There is also a search option which can be used to find specific key words, including an organisation name.

The outcomes of this consultation, along with all previous work and comments made during past consultations, will inform the final version of the Birmingham Development Plan. We will then consult on this again in 2013 before submitting it to the Secretary of State for a formal examination, probably in 2014.

You will notice we have changed the name of the document from 'Core Strategy' to 'Birmingham Development Plan'. This reflects guidance from the government. However, all responses made on previous consultations will be taken into account in this future work.
