The Development Directorate leads on the city council’s ‘succeed economically’ strategic outcome.

The Development Directorate supports the city council’s strategic outcomes by:

Securing and retaining investment for the city in the face of a global recession, and creating opportunities to attract new high value, knowledge based activity and fostering innovation to help diversify the economy
Delivering on major regeneration projects in the city centre and neighbourhoods
Supporting businesses and residents to lessen the effects of the recession and ensuring they are well placed to take advantage of the upturn
Improving access to job opportunities, particularly for those who experience multiple barriers
Working with partners to ensure the right skills are available to support business growth, investment and innovation, and supporting young people into training and employment opportunities, including attracting and retaining graduates to improve our skill and entrepreneurial base
Mitigating the impact of climate change, stimulating the development of a low carbon economy, and creating energy efficient and sustainable developments
Tackling congestion and developing and promoting sustainable travel
Ensuring the city remains globally relevant with appropriate connectivity
