Emergency Duty Team - Adults

Overview

This service is available outside normal working hours for anyone who is in danger and unable to protect themselves, or for those who can not remain in the community without immediate intervention.

We have a dedicated telephone line to our Emergency Duty Team available to provide a city-wide service outside of normal working hours on 0121 675 4806 including:-

Weekdays (Monday to Thursday) - before 8.45 a.m. and after 5:15pm
Weekends – after 4.15 p.m. on Friday to 8.45 a.m. on Monday
Available all Bank Holidays

Each call to the team is dealt with by an experienced and qualified social worker who is able to gain access to residential, day and peripatetic support if necessary.

  • You can call the Emergency Duty Team on:

    When you call us we will:

    • Establish the nature and urgency of the problem
    • Decide whether a visit is required
    • Make sure you receive an appropriate service from a specialist in the Adults and Communities Team or other appropriate agency

    Anyone making an enquiry will be advised of the next steps being taken and the timescales involved.

    • The Adult & Communities and Children, Young People and Families Emergency Duty Team provide an emergency city-wide service out of normal working hours including nights, weekends and bank holidays, for those who are in danger and unable to protect themselves, or for those who can't remain in the community without immediate intervention. Each call to the team is dealt with by an experienced and qualified member of staff.

    • Emergencies reported to the Emergency Duty Team are dealt with by an experienced and qualified social worker who is able to gain access to residential, day and peripatetic support if necessary.

    • The service is available to anyone permanently or temporarily resident in Birmingham and whose need is sufficiently urgent that they cannot wait until normal office hours.

    • The Emergency Duty Team provides a high quality service in which both referring agencies and service users can have confidence. The emergency service is available at all times outside normal office hours.

      The social worker on duty will consider the immediate referral and on the initial information received, determine the nature and degree of risk presented.

      Anyone making an enquiry will be advised of the next steps being taken and the timescales involved.

    • After assessing the information received, we will do one of following:

      • Visit to establish the nature of the problems first hand
      • Make sure you receive a service from a specialist from the Adults and Communities team, Children, Young Persons and Families or other appropriate agency
      • On gathering information, determine that whilst a service is needed, it does not need to be dealt with outside normal office hours
      • Determine that you do not need Adults and Communities or Children, Young Persons and Families help and will suggest alternative solutions to the problem
