You can ask us to send you information on any of our services. The more detail you provide, the faster we’ll be able to respond.

Ask us to send you a leaflet

We produce many leaflets and other printed information. If you know the title of the leaflet that you want, please tell us on the form. If you don’t know what it’s called, just give as many details as possible and we’ll try to match the leaflet to your request.

Ask us for information about public emergencies

We publish details about what to do in Public Emergencies, such as the tornado, on our website. You can also get further information from Neighbourhood Offices and from contact Birmingham on 0121 303 1111.

If your question isn’t answered in any of the above, you can ask us using the form. You can also enquire about a specific incident. Please be patient though – depending on the severity and impact of the emergency, it may take us a little longer than usual to respond.

Make a request for information under the Freedom of Information Act

We want you to be able to access all the information you need so that you can gain a better understanding of how we work and our policies. A lot of information is already available to the public on our website, in leaflets and through other publications. If you can’t find what you’re looking for, you can make a request through the Freedom of Information Act.

Response time

Please give us as much detail as you can when you make your request. Sometimes, we might have to ask you for more information. Once we’ve got all the details from you that we need, we must give you the information you’ve asked for within 20 working days.

Charges

Depending on what information you’ve asked for, there may be a charge, based on the cost of providing it. We’ll work it out in accordance with the Fees Regulations, issued by the Ministry of Justice, and tell you as soon as we know what it will be. Make sure you ask for everything you need as there may be further charges if you ask for something else at a later date.

Sometimes, it may not be possible for us to give you the information you’ve asked for. This is where an exemption applies, but we’ll always tell you if this is the case.

What does the Freedom of Information Act do?

Under the Freedom of Information Act 2000, we must increase access to the information we hold. Part of the Act says we must provide a publication scheme.

Our publication scheme shows what information we routinely make available to the public. It’s been approved by the Information Commissioner. They are responsible for promoting good practice and ensuring that we comply with Freedom of Information and Data Protection Laws.

You can view or download a lot of the information in our publication scheme online, for free. All Birmingham libraries have free internet access.
