Highways Works Programme

Highways Service Provider Programmes

Amey is the service provider responsible for maintaining and managing Birmingham’s highway infrastructure, including 2,500km of road network, nearly 100,000 street lights, 76,000 trees and over 850 highway structures and bridges across the city.

In November 2010 Amey completed the most extensive condition survey ever undertaken on Birmingham’s roads. Works in the programmes have been prioritised based on the resulting condition data, the general principle being ‘worst first’.

Amey then consulted with the constituency committees and other key stakeholders regarding the draft programmes. Each committee was presented with a draft plan for its specific area. These included the works programmes for services related to roads, footways, street lighting, trees, weed control, highway structures, traffic signals and tunnel refurbishment.

The final draft programme was then approved by Birmingham City Council in May 2011. The programmes include an indicative programme of works for the five years from June 2011 to May 2016.

Please note: The Highways Works Programmes are unavailable, and are currently under review until further notice.

Access to your road during resurfacing works

Vehicles are unable to drive over the hot material, whilst re-surfacing operations are being carried out. The section of road affected will be entirely closed to ALL traffic, most local access can be arranged if you speak to the gateman onsite (who will be located by the barriers at the end of road). If you require special access please contact 0121 303 6644 and select option 2. Pedestrian access will be maintained as well as access for emergency vehicles. The road closures are in place for your safety as well as the safety of our staff, we appreciate your understanding during these works.
