Oscott Ward

Oscott Ward, in the Northern part of the City, was mainly farm land, until the estate was built in the 1930s. It includes the former Booths Farm sand quarry, Aldridge Road Recreation Ground, Birmingham City ("Witton") Cemetery and Kingstanding Circle. It is part of the Parliamentary Constituency of Perry Barr. Oscott Ward is located in the North West of the City, borders Walsall Metropolitan Borough Council, includes the neighbourhoods of Perry Beeches, Kingstanding (part), Old Oscott and Queslett, and forms part of the Perry Barr Parliamentary Constituency.

2001 Census of Population: Key Statistics

According to the 2001 Population Census there were 24,073 people resident in Oscott.
- 21.7% of people were aged under 16, 55.6% were aged between 16 and 59, while 22.6% were aged over 60.
- The minority ethnic population made up 9.4% (2,273) of the wards population, compared with 29.6% for Birmingham. These numbers exclude people with a White Irish background.
- 79.9% of households were owner occupied and 13.3% were rented from either the local authority, housing association or other registered social landlord. The remaining 6.8% of households rented privately or lived rent free.
- The Census found that 11,405 (68.4%) of the population aged 16 to 74 were working or seeking work, this compared with 60.4% for Birmingham.
