Culture, Learning and Skills O&S Committee, Thursday 4th December 2014-2.00pm, Committee Room 3&4, Council House

Cllr Penny Holbrook, Cabinet Member for Skills, Learning and Culture will be presenting detailsd of the recently launched birmingham "Youth Offer".

Members will also have the opportunity to discuss Birminghams strategy for cultural provision for children and young people.

The BBC will also be attending to present details of developments within Birmingham.

Health and Social Care O&S Committee – Wednesday 26th November at 10.00am in Committee Rooms 3 & 4

The Cabinet Member for Health and Wellbeing will be attending to talk to Members about the Service Review Green Paper. The Committee will be tracking for the first time progress on implementation of recommendations in the Tackling Childhood Obesity Inquiry. Members will also receive briefings on the Better Care Fund and the Birmingham Safeguarding Adults Board Annual Report, as well as an update on Ebola from the Director of Public Health and Public Health England.

Partnerships, Contract Performance and Third Sector O&S Committee Monday 24th November 2014 – 10.30 am, Committee Rooms 3&4, Council House

The Committee will begin their first evidence gathering session for their Inquiry looking at how the City Council commissions with third sector organisations. Members will be hearing from the representatives of the Third Sector Assembly and Council Officers responsible for procurement and policy. Birmingham Voluntary Services Council have also been invited to the meeting.

The Committee will also be hearing about progress made on the implementation of recommendations made in the Health of the Third Sector Scrutiny Report that was agreed at the City Council meeting in April 2013.

Education and Vulnerable Children O&S Committee, Wednesday 19th Novemeber @ 2.00pm,Committee Rooms 3&4, The Council House

The Committee will be reeciving detailed reports on the recruitment and retention of Social Work staff at Birmingham City Council. There will also be a discussion on School improvement.

Districts and Public Engagement O&S Committee, 18th November 2014 at 2pm in Committee Room 6

The Committee will be evidence gathering for its inquiry: The Role of Councillors on Districts Committees. In attendance will be three Executive Members for Local Services (also known as District Heads) and the Director of Housing Transformation. The Terms of Reference for this Inquiry is attached.

Tuesday 11th November 2014 – 2.00 pm, Committee Room 6, The Council House

This month the Committee will focus on monitoring the progress made on the implementation of recommendations on two previously completed inquiries.

Birmingham: Where the World Meets is the second Scrutiny Inquiry that will be considered at the meeting. Members will also hear about what work has been done by the City Council and partners such as the Birmingham & Solihull Mental Health Trust and West Midlands Police in dealing with people with Mental Health issues who come into contact with Criminal Justice Agencies.

The Health and Social Care O&S Committee has recently completed its inquiry into Dementia Services in Birmingham and the resulting report “Living Life to the Full with Dementia” will be presented at the City Council meeting on Tuesday 4th November.

Learning Culture and Skills O&S Committee, Thursday 6th November, 2014@ 2pm in Cm Rm 3 and 4

The committee will be holding the second session of its Inquiry into increasing participation in Sport and Physical activity. members will be hearing from a range of national and local organisations including Sport England, Bike North Birmingham, Saheli Adventure Hub, Sport Birmingham, Street Games and the University of Birmingham.
