Mobile Arts

The Arts on the Move scheme is part of Birmingham City Council’s Culture Commissioning Service’s commitment to ‘Culture on Your Doorstep’ – bringing arts and cultural activities to your local area and community.

The unit so far in 2011/12 has been travelling around the city with the following activities:


Write Down, Speak Up – Love Where You Live: Spoken word performances and poetry drop-in workshops from some of Birmingham’s best poets – Write Down Speak Up are a poet collective inclusive of former Birmingham poet laureates and young poet laureates.


SecretCity Arts – The Secret Life of Birds: Look around you – birds are everywhere – singing, nesting, and getting on with their lives alongside ours. The project explores the secret life of birds through puppets, mask making, poetry and storytelling – http://www.secretcityarts.com/


Edgbaston Arts Forum – Home: This project explores the meaning of ‘home’ through collage, drawing and model-making.


Ikon Gallery – The Real Family ofBirmingham:The Ikon Gallery who will be using the mobile art unit to promote and engage residents through internationally renowned artist Gillian Wearing's 'A Real Birmingham Family' public art project - http://arealbirminghamfamily.com/


Local Art Forums: Each of Birmingham’s ten local art forums have been using the mobile arts unit in their area to promote local artists, arts organisation and community activities.
