Gambling Premises Licence Fees

The Gambling Act 2005 gives responsibility for the licensing and regulation of gambling premises to licensing authorities.The cost of these new responsibilities will be met by gambling operators through a one-off application fee and annual fees for the various categories of gambling premises licences.The Secretary of State has devolved to licensing authorities in England and Wales the freedom to set their own fee levels for premises licence applications and annual fees up to a prescribed maximum fee.

In calculating its fee levels Birmingham City Council has taken into account the cost of determining and issuing premises licences and other associated functions such as inspections and enforcement. These fee levels will enable the City to recover all reasonable costs associated with these new licensing functions, and also ensure fairness and value for money for the gambling industry.
