Corporate Procurement: Sustainability
Birmingham City Council is committed to Sustainability and sustainable development.
An accepted definition of sustainable development is as follows:
development which meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs
It demonstrates that increasing stress is being put on resources and environmental systems for example, water, land and air.
The UK Government has identified four priority areas for immediate action which are:
- Sustainable Consumption and Production
- Climate Change and Energy
- Natural Resources Protection and Environment Enhancement
- Sustainable Communities
Corporate Procurement Services aim is to lead and inspire sustainable procurement through the whole procurement supply chain.
