Public Register of Environmental Information: Eco-Management and Audit (EMAS)
Relevant legislation: European Council Regulation (EEC) No 1836/93 (replaced by Council Regulation 761/01); DoE Circular 2195; Welsh Office Circular 9/95
EMAS is a voluntary initiative designed to improve companies' environmental performance. Environmental Management has become a core business for many organisations and minimising waste, reducing energy consumption and making more efficient use of resources can all lead to cost savings in addition to helping protect and enhance the environment. It is a requirement of the EMAS scheme that participating organisations regularly produce a public environmental statement that reports on their environmental performance.
