Equalities and Integration Framework
Equalities and Integration Framework 2012 – 2015
The global financial crisis is having a severe impact upon the most vulnerable amongst Birmingham's citizens. Despite the innovative approaches taken to deliver the required savings by the City Council's Directorates, the budget reduction will ultimately have an impact on citizens, including the most vulnerable.
Supporting the Council in this challenge the Equality and Diversity service has begun the process of drafting a framework document on equalities and integration. The strategy will outline the council’s provisions for compliance with the Equality Act and Public Sector Equality Duty. The delivery of which will be governed by corporate processes that will aid the monitoring of quality, performance, progress and compliance with equalities legislation.
The strategic framework will not be a stand alone document but one which captures the delivery of equality outcomes highlighted within the Big City Plan, Sustainable Community Strategy and the Council Plan - its purpose will be to provide the supporting context for the authority to help the citizens of Birmingham achieve a 'higher quality of life' and facilitate communities to 'make a contribution'.
To date we have held and participated in, a number of consultation events with representatives from the voluntary sector, statutory bodies, partners and stakeholders. All have taken the opportunity to contribute to the thinking around what 'fairness' will look like for Birmingham in light of the challenging times ahead.
I hope to share the draft framework with those involved in its development at a date to be confirmed. The framework is scheduled for publication in 2012.
