Highways Annual Considerate Contractor Awards Ceremony
Birmingham City Council celebrate partnership working in street works.
Set up in 1998, Birmingham’s Considerate Contractor Streetworks Scheme is designed to encourage all those working on the Birmingham highway to carry out work in a safe, considerate and consistent manner, with the public at the heart of their decision making.
Contractors and utilities that are responsible for carrying out street works volunteer to join the scheme. Those who sign up are expected to follow a code of practice. An important part of that code is to ensure the public are informed and consulted about any potential disruption and congestion caused due to works carried out on the highway.
The success of the scheme is very much dependent on partnership working .
On the 4th of September 2012, Councillor Keith Linnecor took over as chairperson of the Considerate Contractor Streetworks Scheme Management Committee. He is keen for the scheme to focus on the good work of the lay assessors and continue to be about a collaborative approach to improving road works activities in Birmingham.
The Annual Awards Ceremony is taking on a new format. The prestigious ceremony will be a celebration of everyone’s hard work. The event will take place on March 7th 2013 at the Council House. We are focussing the evening on the scheme and the contributions from all the highway and utility contractors. It is vital that we reward those contractors who perform consistently well here in Birmingham.
The Evaluation Panel Meeting is on the 18th January. Could I also ask you to submit any nominations for the following award categories,
- Nominate A Team – we are looking for a team who puts safety before all other activities on the highway. For instance have the contractors you have been working with delivered an exceptional job in a busy location ?
- Special Achievement – this is for a contractor or an individual who has worked exceptionally hard to promote good customer care.
Councillor Linnecor is wanting to acknowledge the hard work of the Lay Assessors so the 2013 event will be a celebration of our volunteers and the dedication which they have shown to the Considerate Contractor Streetworks Scheme.
