Community Covenant Grant Scheme
The Armed Forces Community Covenant Grant Scheme provides funds for projects that strengthen the ties between the Armed Forces community and the wider community in which they live.
The grant scheme will consider applications for projects that deliver tangible results and meet the overall aims of the Community Covenant (see above). Applications can be submitted by any part of the community, including voluntary groups, charities and public bodies such as schools and colleges.
Birmingham has ben successful in securing grant funding for three projects in the city:
- Lordswood Boys School - Combined Cadet Force needed urgent repairs to the building they used for meetings. They were able to secure a grant of £8,435 to complete the repairs. The cadet force continues to offer life changing opportunities to cadets around Bearwood.
- West Midlands Veterans Housing in Partnership and Home Group have secured a grant of £40,000 to part fund their 'Home to Work' project where homeless veterans are given temporary accommodation and have access to a training and employment support programme so that they can find full employment and move into permanent accommodation
- Birmingham Bach Choir in partnership with the Royal Britis.h Legion have secured a grant of £6,300 to fund the setting up of the Midlands Military Community Choir who will perform at Symphony Hall in September 2014 as part of the city's commemoration events marking the centenary of the start of the First World War.
