Central Lending DVDs

The DVDs in our collection are available to hire and range from classics such as Fritz Lang's Metropolis to the latest releases.

Our large World Cinema collection features films in over twenty languages (with English sub-titles), including new and classic titles.

There is a wide selection of DVDs for children of all ages. You can choose from popular television programmes like Gavin and Stacey to films for all the family, such as the Harry Potter series.

We also have a useful leisure and information collection. These titles include Documentaries, Comedy, Shakespeare Plays, Travel and BBC Classics such as Bleak House. We also have health and fitness, travel, and instructional DVDs which are free to borrow.

How many DVDs can I borrow ?
You can borrow up to 5 DVDs at one time.

How long can I borrow DVDs for ?
You can borrow Top Title DVDs for 2 days. All other DVDs can be borrowed for 7 days.

Can I reserve DVDs ?
2-day loanscan be picked up only from the holding library - Central Lending, Central Music, Ward End and Shard End. These are marked as Top Titles under the Category heading in the full catalogue record. 7-day loans can be reserved at any library or online, and can be collected from any library in Birmingham.

Can I renew DVDs ?
Yes. Providing they are not reserved you can renew them up to a maximum of 3 times in person or once by telephone or online. Remember that there will be a further hire charge each time you renew. This will go into your account and prevent you from further online renewals.

Will I be able to borrow DVDs straight away ?
You can borrow most items held in the collection immediately. However, there are certain restrictions on borrowing Top Title DVDs. Please ask the staff for further details.

Can I use the new self-service machines for DVDs ?
No, you will still need to have DVDs issued and discharged at the counter, please.

Please note that young people under 18 will only be able to borrow DVDs appropriate for their age group. They will need to show proof of age, such as a medical card or birth certificate along with their library ticket.
