Birmingham Young Poet Laureate 2008-2009

Megan Bradbury was the fourth Young Poet Laureate for Birmingham

13 year old Megan was one of more than 40 young people who applied to be our fourth Young Poet Laureate. The announcement was made on National Poetry Day, Thursday 9 October 2008.

Megan is a pupil at King Edward VI Handsworth Grammar School for Girls.

Megan promoted poetry to young people in Birmingham throughout the year.

Megan wrote a powerful and moving poem for Holocaust Memorial Day.

Megan says, "Poetry isn't just an English lesson. It isn't just for professional writers who get paid and earn their living from writing. Poetry is everywhere, and for everyone!"

Read a selection of Megan's poems, many of which she wrote as Young Laureate.

You can also read some of the poems from the 2008 shortlisted candidates.

A year in the life of a Young Poet Laureate
Megan began the year by receiving her reward from poet Ian McMillan. She told us about her experiences throughout the year in her blog.
