Birmingham City Council has announced plans for the Library of Birmingham, a brand new centre for culture and knowledge integrated with the Birmingham Repertory Theatre. A fantastic opportunity that will change the face of cultural life in the city, these plans will see the library and the theatre working in partnership to offer new and exciting activities to the public.

Housed on the site between Baskerville House and The REP, the development will be a flagship of Birmingham's Big City Plan which will see the continued regeneration of the city over the next 20 years.

Born out of the demands for services and facilities which the existing Central Library simply cannot accommodate, the new library will truly embody the spirit of lifelong learning for all and promises to fuse new technology with traditional resources in its bid to become the "best public library in the world".

Set to open in 2013, the Library of Birmingham will succeed the now dated Central Library as the city's hub for understanding and innovation, promoting learning, information and culture into the 21st century.
