About Richard Grant

Richard writes and performs poetry in the West Midlands and further afield. His writing is supported by the Arts Council. His work revolves around finding younger and newer audiences for poetry using slam, hip hop and performance poetry.

He has represented Birmingham in several national Poetry Slams and is well known in the city for his performances at the Birmingham Rep, CBSO, Midlands Arts Centre, Library Theatre, Alexandra Theatre and Hippodrome Dance Exchange.

He is very active in encouraging emerging voices and writers:

  • New October Poets which saw 25 poets in the region creating new work which went on tour in London
  • West Midlands Youth Poetry Slam which will include visits to over 50 schools during 2006 and intercity slams with London, Leeds and Bristol.
  • Birmingham Book Festival 2004
  • Warwick Words


Richard Grant aka Dreadlockalien

Richard is working at the cutting edge of audio and video digital media combined with poetry and has recently launched the country's first dedicated poetry recording and film studio - 'Dreadlockalien Spoken Word Recordings', based in Hockley.
