Councillor Paula Smith - Hall Green Ward - My News
I am very pleased to see the expansion of doorstep collection of recyclable materials throughout the city. I know from comments Ive received that this service is very much appreciated. I look forward to the day when this service is provided to all homes in the city.
Along with local community groups I have taken an active part in community litter picks. I am always looking for new locations, please contact me if you know of an area that needs cleaning up.
I have developed a good working relationship with the local police in Hall Green. Together we are working to cut crime in the local community, which has thankfully reduced according to figures produced by the Crime Reduction Partnership. More still needs to be done but we are moving in the right direction. I am also a member of the local Police Tasking Group where local people come together to raise issues of concern to the Council and police.
I am pleased that the Council and police have installed gates across alleyways at numerous locations in Hall Green. This initiative has led to a reduction in burglary and anti social behaviour, which has been greatly appreciated by local residents, who requested the provision of these security gates.
I campaigned with local people to save the 41 bus which was reinstated following a 2,000 signature petition to save the bus service. This clearly demonstrates that residents and Councillors working together can achieve wonders in this case getting CENTRO to change their mind regarding the 41 bus service.
I deliver a regular newsletter which keeps residents up to date with local issues and actions that we have taken on your behalf.
I also believe that it is important to conduct surveys on council services and issues which affect the local community. I welcome your views and look forward to receiving them.
I am also in favour of holding public meetings on issues that are of concern to you. These meetings are useful as a mechanism for me to hear your views and for you to raise community based issues. The meetings need not be large. If a handful of residents wish to get together to highlight a local issue I am more than prepared to attend and try my best to help.
