Councillor Barbara Jackson - Stechford and Yardley North Ward - My News
I am committed to cutting crime in the local community and I am very pleased to note that according to figures released by the Birmingham Crime Reduction Partnership crime has significantly reduced in the Yardley and Stechford areas.
I have been a great supporter of providing security gates on rear access walkways in the local community. These gates have certainly helped to reduce house burglaries and anti social behaviour. Another crime reduction measure I supported was the installation of CCTV cameras at the Yew Tree which has been very effective.
I will ensure that street lighting under the new PFI deal will continue to be upgraded. It’s a fact that brighter lights leads to safer streets.
Graffiti is an ongoing problem and I report instances of graffiti on a regular basis.
I am working with local residents to have disabled access provided at Stechford station. This campaign has been running for many years without a successful conclusion. The funding of disability access at Stechford is a Government issue and I am applying as much pressure as possible to have money allocated for Stechford from the Government’s Access for All funding.
I am a member of the Yardley Great Trust, Gun Barrel; Proof House and a member of the West Midlands Fire Authority.
