Castle Vale Centre Park
Centre Park Castle Vale was opened in 2003 and has earned a special place in the hearts of people in the community.
Situated in the centre of the Castle Vale Estate, the land was previously an RAF airfield next to the factory which built Spitfire aircraft. The new park was designed after consultation with the local community. The park's design pays tribute to the history of the site with its Spitfire-themed gateway. Castle Vale Centre Park covers an area of just under 6 acres of parkland. The park was awarded the Civic Trusts prestigious Green Flag award for 2006.
The park reflects the needs of the local community and includes a formal garden and seating area for passive recreation, along with ornamental and non-ornamental areas and a dedicated conservation areas. For active recreation, there are play facilities for children of different ages, a multi-use games area for football, basketball and other games, as well as space for events.
A special area is devoted to ornamental grasses, predominantly Lolium perenne (Perenial Rye Grass) and Poa annua (Annual Meadow Grass).
