Project Kingfisher offers a wide variety of activities for schools. The table below summarises what the Rangers have to offer. Other activities can be arranged to suit the National Curriculum.

Environmental Arts and Crafts

An introduction to habitats and food chains and the importance of invertebrates to the environment.

An opportunity to actively improve the environment (tree planting, pond work, clean ups etc.,)

An exploration of the natural world using the different senses.

Bird making, willow weaving, collages, kite making, wild art etc.,

Illustrated Talks

Make bird cake and learn about the importance of helping birds through the winter period.

A themed walk with activities looking at grassland, river, hedgerows, ponds etc.,

A themed walk looking at landscape changes and land use.


A slide show at the school giving a general introduction to the work of Project Kingfisher, based around the above activities.

River Studies



Woodland Studies


Studying life styles/cycles, aquatic habitats and pollution


An activity session alongside and inside the River Cole, studying erosion, deposition, meanders and river life etc.,


A range of activities from woodland ecology to tree hugging




Most of the above activities can be adapted for all age groups from five years upwards.
