Steelhouse Conservation Area
The Steelhouse Conservation Area was designated in 1993. The conservation area lies at the heart of Birmingham and reflects its development from industrial town to great provincial city.
It contains a superb example of unbroken Victorian and Edwardian townscape, extending along Corporation Street and augmented by the General (now Children's) Hospital on Steelhouse Lane.
This includes a nationally significant group of terracotta buildings in which the Victoria Law Courts provide the unique centrepiece.
A Character Appraisal and Management Plan for the area was produced in 2007 and provides a framework for the preservation of the character of the conservation area.
A map showing the boundary of the conservation area is below along with the original designation report.
