Application Form to undertake Works to Trees

There is now a national standard form for applications for tree work called 1APP, which came into force on the 1st October 2008. This form is mandatory and should be used when applying to undertake works to trees, which are subject to a Tree Preservations Order and for notification of works to trees situated in a Conservation Area.

You can apply online through the Planning Portal. For details on information that you need to submit an application and guidance on the use of the form please refer to our validation criteria.

Once an application has been submitted to the Council, an Arboricultural Officer will assess the proposed work and may grant consent and recommend works to maintain the amenity value of the tree(s). The Council may refuse applications if the work is considered unacceptable. The Local Planning Authority has 8 weeks from the date the application is registered to make a decision. Conservation Areas

To conserve the special contributions of trees, the Conservation Area legislation includes the protection of all trees that meet the criteria. When a notification for tree work is made within Conservation Areas (only), trees are protected if they have a stem diameter greater than 75mm and measured at 1.5 meters in height. Applicants will need to provide this information. You must give 6 weeks notice to the Local Planning Authority prior to carrying out any works to a tree.
