A guide to other Urban Design services
Urban Design work with our clients to deliver a range of projects. We offer flexible working arrangements to suit our clients individual needs.
Services available include:
CDM Co-ordinator
Compliance with the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2007 is a legal duty involving Clients, Designers and Contractors.
As experienced CDM Co-ordinators we understand that the legislation can be daunting to some clients who are often not experienced in construction matters.
Urban Design has a specialist, independent team of fully competent CDM Co-ordinators who are able to provide an impartial, thorough and professional service in accordance with the CDM Regulations. All of the team are registered members of the APS (Association for Project Safety).
We will:
- Advise and assist our clients with their duties and the selection of designers / principal contractors
- Facilitate good communication between clients, designers and contractors
- Advise on and supervise the preparation of appropriate risk assessments
- Co-ordinate health and safety aspects of design work and co-operate with others involved in the project
- Provide health and safety advice on the elimination of hazards and potential construction risks
- Identify, collect and pass on pre-construction information
- Review the principal contractor's construction phase health and safety plans
- Liaise with principal contractor regarding ongoing design
- Formally notify the HSE of construction projects (Form F10)
- Advise designers on reducing risks associated with future maintenance
- Prepare / update health & safety file
- Advise clients on ways of managing 'residual risks’
We can also:
- Facilitate and chair regular meetings for groups of safety and construction professionals working on large projects
- Liaise with other safety professionals including the Health and Safety Executive with regard to legislation changes

Clerk of works
We provide clerk of works services in mechanical, electrical and building disciplines, from the start of a project on site to the end of the defects liability period.
We can:
- Monitor the quality of projects during construction
- Report on British Standards and codes of practice
- Monitor defects during the defects liability period
- Monitor and assess mechanical and electrical certification
- Provide specialist services such as surveys, reports on new building techniques, cavity investigations and reports, assessments of new materials and site risk assessments

Quantity Surveyors
Our quantity surveyors work on projects ranging from simple refurbishments to complex, multi-million pound schemes. Services include:

- Produce feasibility studies
- Provide preliminary cost advice, cost planning and detailed estimates
- Provide advice on contract procurement and preparation of tender documents
- Provide post-contract services and prepare and agree final accounts.

Building surveyors not only deal with the development and building of a project but with the lifetime care and performance of a building. Their work covers all types of construction, including renovation and refurbishment, conversions, extensions and adaptations.

Engineers
Electrical and Mechanical
Electrical and mechancial engineers design cost effective, efficient and environmentally friendly systems for air conditioning, computer and telephone cabling electricity, fire alarms, heating,lighting and security CCTV. They are responsible for projects from feasibility studies to completion on site.

Our structural engineers able to provide design services to structures constructed in all common building materials. Their portfolio includes: new secondary schools, leisure centres, refurbishment of high rise, etc. In addition, we have particular expertise in the investigation of building defects in structures ranging from low rise system built and historic listed buildings to high rise housing.
