People who cannot adopt or foster
- Convicted of certain violent or sexual offences
- Convicted of offences against children
- Whose household members have been convicted of such offences.
No offences are spent
No offences of any kind are 'spent' when discussing the protection of children. All convictions and cautions, however minor, must be declared. We are extremely unlikely to accept anyone convicted of even minor offences in the last two years.
Abuse allegations and children removed previously
If you or your close family members have had a child removed from your care, or have ever been the subject of child abuse allegations, you are also very unlikely to be considered.
Everything must be declared
As you would expect, our approval process is extremely rigorous, so we do ask you to be open and honest with us because any dishonesty will terminate your application. If you are unsure, please get in touch with us and we can discuss your particular situation. Remember, we want to say 'Yes' to you, but we have to check your background carefully to make sure that we only approve adopters and carers who are suitable to look after our children.
