Telecommunications Register

A register of all applications and notifications for telecom installations is available. This register is regularly updated, however there may be a delay in updates at the moment due to recent changes made to our computer systems. The document below was last updated on 17th August 2009. We hope to resume regular updates by the end of October.

There are 3 types of installation:

• Large enough to need planning permission on which neighbours are consulted and the council makes a decision. Typically this is for masts over 15 metres high.
• Medium sized installations that the government has allowed to be constructed, the council can comment on the siting and design of the installation, but cannot refuse it on principle - These are known as notifications. Neighbours are consulted and their comments taken into account. Masts under 15 metres often fall into this category.
• Small installations where the operators only have to inform the council what works are proposed - These are known as licenses. As this is only for information no consultation is carried out. The information is available through the telecoms register. An example of this type of application would be a small receiving dish on the side of a building.

Please note: installations that appear in the register may not have been implemented i.e. if they were refused consent or were replaced by subsequent installations.
