Birmingham City Council

City Centre Taxi Ranks

Cars and other vehicles have often parked on taxi ranks and this makes it difficult for both taxi drivers and passengers.

In an effort to prevent this obstruction of the City Taxi Ranks and assist the operation of Hackney carriages, all of the City Centre 63 Taxi Ranks have recently been re-established under a new Traffic Regulation Order (The Local Government (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 1976 Hackney Carriage Stands Authorisations & No Stopping Order 2003). All the ranks have been re-signed and re-marked on-street.

This means that all taxi ranks within the Ring-Road and at Five Ways can now be enforced by the Police, the City's Civil Enforcement Officers and Licensing Enforcement Officers, if obstructed.

The cost of a penalty charge notice (PCN) issued for obstructing a rank is 0 (0 if paid within 14 days). Should a vehicle be towed away the charge is 05, plus the penalty charge notice. Storage of vehicles is charged at 2 per day, after midnight on the 2nd day of storage.
