School Attendance

This service is dedicated to improving and maintaining pupil attendance and supports schools through the details of attendance issues and identifying effective ways for improving attendance.

It is part of the Education Welfare Service and has roles and responsibilities defined in law and has legal powers that can be used with parents who fail to ensure their child's attendance at school.

Parents should be aware of their responsibilities for ensuring their child receives an education and of the law relating to this.

It is possible for parents to arrange to educate their children somewhere other than in school. See the Home Education page for more details.

There is additional information about unauthorised absence from school on the Community Action Team page.
