Selly Oak New Road and associated Highway Schemes

The lifeblood of any city is its transportation network. As part of the regeneration of the A38 route through Selly Oak, a new 10-metre wide, 1.5km urban all purpose road will be built to alleviate the traffic pressure on the existing A38.

It is vital to the regeneration of Selly Oak centre, and the wider surrounding area, that this road is developed. The consequential reduction in traffic on the existing road will develop a safer environment for all citizens using the centre and will result not just in improved transportation links, but the comprehensive improvement of the whole area.

RAIL BRIDGE DRIVE AS IT HAPPENS

Click on the links below to view the ‘live’ works to install the railway bridge deck that will carry the Birmingham to Gloucester railway over the Selly Oak New Road. The 3850 tonne rail bridge deck will be moved into place between 25th and 29th December 2010.

The actual ‘drive’ to move the deck from its current position alongside the railway to its final position is scheduled to take place on the afternoon of 26th December 2010.

The interval between shots will be between 30 seconds and 1 minute. The cameras will upload an image to the website every 10 minutes.
