Keep Birmingham Working
This is a broad partnership initiative, delivered through libraries, to help people in Birmingham find work, start a business, learn new skills or become self employed. Your local library is a community hub that can help you back into the world of paid employment, or be your own boss and upgrade your skills through its range of services. As part of the major refurbishment works at the library the Community Room received a makeover which included the provision of new furniture. Access to the room is from the main library only. It is carpeted, has a kitchen and easy access to the library public toilets. The toilet facilities include a parent and baby room, and a toilet designed for use by people with disabilities. Tables and chairs are provided in the Community Room and blinds can be drawn over the windows. There are plenty of sockets for electrical equipment, although you will need an accompanying certificate showing that the equipment has been tested for safety by a competent electrician, or use a power breaker. Some crockery is available, and there is a water heater above the sink in the kitchen.
The room is available for use by community groups, at the discretion of the Library Service. Where the aims of the group are in line with those of the Library, use of the room may be without charge, but staffing costs such as security may need to be paid. Other organisations will be charged a non-commercial or a commercial rate. The room is not available for parties, wedding receptions, etc. and alcohol is not permitted. If it is to be booked while the Library is open, the group's activities must not affect the provision of the service. The room is not available on Sundays or after 10pm. Please ask the Community Librarian for further details.
Perry Common Library is now one of the local services managed by the Perry Barr constituency.
