Frankfurt Christmas Market and Craft Market 2014

13 November to 22 December, 10:00am - 9:00pm
Rotunda to ICC, through New Street, Victoria Square, Chamberlain Square, and Centenary Square

Birmingham's Frankfurt Christmas Market and Craft Market, now having run for over a decade, has become a massive favourite with both residents and visitors to the city from all over the UK and Europe. With over 180 stalls, we claim it as the largest outdoor Christmas Market in the Britain, and is the centrepiece of the city’s annual Christmas events calendar.

Pretzels, schnitzels, bratwursts, and knoblauchbrot will tempt your tastebuds, all of which can be washed down with gluhwein, weissbeer, mulled cider, or tasty hot chocolate. And whilst you're here why not pick up some presents for your family or indeed yourself in the form of the ever-favourite crystal lamps, Sounds of Nature, hand-crafted leatherwork, rugs, and much more besides!

Again this year the marzipan in the stollen is the return of the outdoor ice skating rink in front of the Birmingham Repertory Theatre on Broad Street until 4 January.

Things to do at the Christmas Markets

Eat a German Bratwurst & Brezel

German Bratwurst (white or red sausage) and Brezel are traditional German foods and are famous throughout the world. How the Bratwurst is served varies by region, but it is commonly served with a Brötchen (roll). The Brezel is type of bread and is particularly famous in South Germany and Austria. German speakers also call it "Laugenbrezel" (lyle pretzel).

The West Midlands' own traders offer an entirely different selection of beautiful hand-crafted items at the Christmas Craft Market, created by local artisans, as well as ethnic goods imported from all over the world.

Stalls offer a huge range of locally hand-crafted items, including decorative ironwork, wood carvings, handbags, toys, musical instruments and organic soaps and cosmetics.

Other stalls offer fantastic ethnic handicrafts, imported from all over the world from places such as Africa, India and South America.

In addition to the crafts, a huge range of locally produced food and drink is on offer to tantalise hungry shoppers, including organic sausages and real ale from local micro-breweries, as well as home made chutneys and cheeses to take home and enjoy.

Coupled together, the two markets generate an incredible atmosphere and a unique shopping experience, creating the feel of a small, bustling village within the heart of the city centre.

Together with the huge range of Christmas events on offer, Birmingham’s Christmas markets offer a delightful and exciting experience for all visitors.

With so many stalls to browse, why not avoid the evening crowds by taking advantage of one of the great centrally located hotels and stay for the whole weekend?

With the markets right on your doorstep for a relaxing morning browse, there are also plenty of other activities in Birmingham to keep you entertained for the whole weekend.
